Vintage Voices From Hamilton Radio
Over the years CKOC, CHML, CHAM, CKDS and CHIQ provided the soundtrack to life in Hamilton. The goal of these podcasts is to explore Hamilton's radio history by talking with the voices that kept us company and informed. I hope to share some great conversations with the people who were behind the mic on Hamilton radio. Comments are always welcome: VinylProfessor@outlook.com.

While he's known more for his work on CHUM/CHUM-FM in Toronto, Bruce Marshall did have two stints at CJJD/CHAM. In this podcast, you'll find out that he not only has a passion for radio; he's also worked as a firefighter and was the one time voice of TSN promos. He also worked with Jim Tatti in Halifax.
He'll also share what it was like the night Mike Cooper was "shot" in the middle of the night live on 1050 CHUM. (Not a Hamilton story, but a great radio story nonetheless)

In this short 9 minute extra from my interview with the vintage voice of CKOC's Dave Smith, we talk about his son "C.A. The DJ" (that's him on the front panel of the All Hit 40 back in August of 1976) and Dave's band, The Federation, who still play each month to packed houses at the Norfolk Tavern in Port Dover.

Dave Smith began his career at CKOC in 1972 as the evening DJ. Over the years he worked both morning and afternoon drive.
In my conversation with Dave, he talks about his early days in radio and coming to CKOC in 1972. He reminisces about the glory days when CKOC had more listeners than all the other Hamilton radio stations combined. We also discuss how much work went into researching the weekly All Hit 40 and yearly Big 500 Countdown.
